An island book publisher has paired up with one of the most vibrant children’s book publishers in Ireland to produce a series of new original children’s books.
Colmcille – a partnership programme which promotes the shared linguistic and cultural heritage of Ireland and Scotland – is supporting Stornoway based publisher Acair to establish a new creative skills exchange project to publish a range of exciting and attractive books for children in Scottish and Irish Gaelic.
For the first time, a group of writers, editors, illustrators, designers and publishers, working in the medium of Gaidhlig and Gaeilge will collaborate to create and publish several new book titles which may also be developed for other media.
Over the coming months a series of workshops will be held in both Ireland and Scotland which will see this unique creative exchange lead to the creation of five new titles published in both Gaidhlig and Gaeilge.
The project has grown out of dialogue between Acair and Galway based publishers, Futa Fata. The two companies recognised their very similar objectives and joined forces to add to children’s' publishing in both Gaeilge and Gaidhlig.
Acair’s chief executive, Agnes Rennie said: “Publishing is at the heart of our creative industries as it brings the creative product of writers and illustrators into the hands of a worldwide audience. We are immensely grateful to Colmcille for recognising the potential of this new creative dynamic between Acair and Futa Fata.”
