Free Church deficit            5/12/11

By Bill Lucas

The Free Church was in deficit by £424,000 at the end of October according to its latest figures.

Angus Macleod treasurer of the Western Isles Presbytery of the Free Church expressed concern over the state of the finances at presbytery’s meeting last week.

He was informed that the figure would probably be reduced by the end of the financial year.

Mr Macdonald, Kinloch, informed the members that the Board of Trustees had decided that the remission from congregations would remain at 60 per cent instead of coming down to 50 per cent.

He said the deficit was because some committees did not keep within their budgets.

Meanwhile, the Rev Kenneth J Macleod of Carloway Free Church was appointed as Interim Moderator of the South Uist and Benbecula congregation. He takes over from the Rev Kenny I Macleod of Stornoway who has been off ill for some time.
