Dense fog affects plane services             16/11/11

Heavy fog at mainland airports caused disruption to island air services for the second time in a week.

The 8.10am plane from Edinburgh to Stornoway was diverted to Balivanich, landing about 10am.

The mail flight was an hour late while other morning flights to the islands were running behind schedule.

No flights landed at Inverness airport until after 10am this morning resulting in delays.

The flight due to depart Stornoway around 9am did not arrive until nearly 1pm

The poor visibility also caused the departing mid-morning plane from Benbecula via Stornoway to run 90 minutes late.

On Monday, passengers from Inverness were bussed to Aberdeen to catch a plane to Stornoway after a blanket of fog affected Dalcross Airport.
