Flood alert for Western Isles                     25/11/11

An updated flood alert has been issued for Western Isles.

There is a continued risk of flooding from spray and wave overtopping during high tide on Friday evening and the early hours of Saturday morning.

Any impacts are expected to be greatest on Saturday morning. Areas most at risk include exposed, low lying, westerly and southerly facing coastal areas.

However, some exposed eastern coastal areas, particularly around Stornoway, may also see some impacts. Inland areas are not at risk of flooding at present.

The times of greatest risk will be at high tide, around 5.45pm to 7pm on Friday evening and 6.15pm to 7.15am on Saturday morning. Members of the public are advised to be vigilant in low lying coastal areas, particularly at these times. SEPA will monitor the situation closely and provide further information when available.

Please note that low lying and exposed westerly facing causeways and roads may be vulnerable to flooding from heavy spray/wave overtopping from large waves, particularly at high water.
