Stornoway, Lewis

Hundreds of ferry passengers have had their journeys disrupted after engine problems on the Stornoway ferry.

The MV Isle of Lewis was stuck in harbour all day Sunday as engineers repaired the engine.

She did not sail until 10.20pm, some eight hours past her normal afternoon departure time.

It  created serious knock-on delays for the crowd of passengers stranded at Ullapool particularly affecting islanders who have to be at work this morning.

Those who are continuing their journey will sail in the early hours and the ship is expected to arrive back on Lewis around 4.30am this morning (Mon).

A Cal Mac spokesman said: “The delay is due to maintenance work which has taken longer than expected. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
