Police clampdown on domestic abuse         23/12/12

Known perpetrators of domestic abuse have been warned police are keeping an eye on them over the festive period.

Perpetrator letters have been served on those assessed to be highest risk offenders highlighting to alleged abusers that they will be subject to enhanced police attention throughout the holiday period.

They have been personally served to alleged abusers who have come to the attention in the past.

Chief Superintendent Julian Innes of Northern Constabulary said the objective is to “identify those perpetrators of domestic abuse who present the greatest risk of harm to victims and their families and to actively target them, utilising all available methods and resources at our disposal to reduce the threat posed by them.”

He added: "Domestic abuse has a devastating impact on victims, including an extremely negative effect on any young people and children in a household. We will do everything in our power to protect these families.”

Perpetrator letters have been served in the Western Isles.

In addition, all perpetrators of domestic abuse currently subject of bail, curfew and licence conditions will be highlighted to officers and proactive checks made to ensure they are complying with conditions set. This may include unannounced visits to places where perpetrators are excluded from.

Attempts will also be made to apprehend perpetrators of domestic abuse who are wanted on warrant for any matter.
