Crossbost induction               12/1/13

By Bill Lucas

Over 400 people, representing several denominations and from all parts of the island, attended the induction of the Rev Calum Iain Macleod to Lochs Free Church in Crossbost, Lewis, on Friday evening.

The Moderator of the Western Isles Presbytery of the Free Church, the Rev Ruairidh Maclean of Leverburgh, Harris, conducted the service.

The address to the new minister was given by the Rev Kenny I Macleod of Stornoway Free Church, and the address to the congregation by the Rev Bob Sinclair of Stornoway, who has been Interim-Moderator to the congregation during the vacancy.

Mr Macleod, 32,  was educated at the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway and then graduated from Glasgow University with an MA degree. He then studied at the Free Church Continuing Seminary.

He was then called to the FCC congregation at Kiltearn but left that charge in 2010 to join the Free Church.

The Lochs church became vacant two years ago following the resignation of the minister, the Rev Alasdair Macleod, who had been minister of the congregation for 7 years.

Mr Macleod and his wife Kay, who comes from North Tolsta, have a family of three, Ellis, 6, Samuel, 4, and 10 month-old Mark.

Following the induction the ladies of the congregation provided refreshments at Sgoil nan Loch in Leurbost.
