Missing cash repaid to church            28/1/13

Money which went missing from a Stornoway church collection has been repaid it is understood.

The culprit is not expected to face court proceedings after apparently owning up to taking the cash from the Free Presbyterian Church.

The church called in police to investigate the apparent theft and the elderly woman, who regularly attended services, later confessed.

It is believed she had access to a key for a cupboard where goodwill donations were stored between Sunday services.

A Northern Constabulary spokesperson said it was reported to them that a “large sum of money had been taken from the collection at the Free Presbyterian Church in Stornoway.”

It is understood the church has dealt with the matter internally and, following a statement and apology from the 69-year-old woman being read to the congregation, consider the matter closed.
