Speeding driver crashed car         29/9/11

A car hire worker who crashed a vehicle he was delivering to a customer has been fined £200 at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

Ryan Macleod was speeding on a winding section of road in South Lochs on his route to met the waiting client in Tarbert, Harris .

Procurator fiscal David Teale said he lost control of the car and swerved across the carriageway a few times. The car turned 180 degrees and careered off the road backwards into the moorland, smashing the car.

The 20-year-old of 3 Macsween Drive, Aird, Point pleaded guilty by letter yesterday (wed) to careless driving between Luerbost and Balallan on 14th June.

The court heard he has left that job and is now training as an apprentice mechanic in Harris and needs his licence for the lengthy return journey to work.

Sheriff Colin Scott Mackenzie said he was a “young man who needs to learn his driving limitations.”

He also imposed three points on his licence on top of the fine.
