Frustration at regular water supply faults at Callanish           17/8/11

Sirs,

Below is a copy of an email that I sent to Alasdair Allan, MSP. The contents are self explanatory. Can I urge all Callanish residents to write in similar terms and also to join me in withholding the money collected by the Council on behalf of Scottish Water. Nothing else works so we might as well try this!

Alasdair,

For about the fifteenth time since Christmas our water supply in Callanish is off again. Time and again someone comes out in a digger and eventually fixes it.

Hours later the pressure gets back up and it comes on again. Until it fails again. Never any explanation, apology, undertaking to sort the mess out for once and for all. No water supplied in bottles unless it is off for over 12 hours, never even the slightest attempt to explain things.

I can't find anyone to talk to. You can only get some poor soul who mans their phones but who has of course no responsibility or authority. Can you do anything to help us?

Can you get them to write to every household in this area and explain

a) why this keeps happening;

b) why they can't be bothered to stop it happening,

and preferably

c) what and when they are going to do to sort this out for good?

Meantime, tomorrow I am going to stop my standing order to CNES for rates and water, calculate how much goes to Scottish Water and deduct that before setting up a new order for the Council Tax only. I am also going to assist all other residents to do likewise.

This is bad enough for householders but becoming ruinous for the Visitor Centre who on such occasions can't even give tourists a cup of coffee thanks to the ridiculous ineptitude of the SW people. Please feel free to copy this to them.

If you can actually find a human being in SW please let me know. It will be a first!
