Broadband fault           30/11/11

Hundreds of computer users in Stornoway had their internet access blocked for nearly two days.

The problem affected BT customers but callers to the telcom giant’s helpline say they were frustrated to be repeatedly told everything was working properly and suggesting the fault was with their own computer‘s modem.

BT fixed the problem on Tuesday night allowing surfers to get back on the net and catch up on  nearly 48 hours of unread e-mails.

A BT spokes man said congestion on a broadband link on the mainland resulted in prolonged downtime for about 460 homes and businesses around Stornoway. Internet traffic was switched to another route to resolve the issue.
