Injured runner is airlifted off hill            8/8/11

One of the 63 runners in the annual Ben Kenneth hill race in Lochboisdale  was airlifted off the summit by the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter last night after injuring himself.

Stephen Scott of Lochboisdale made it to the top but an injury - thought to be a damaged tendon - prevented him from getting back down.

Stornoway Coastguards were alerted by a local coastguard volunteer, who was involved in the race, at the back of 8pm - about half an hour after the participants left the pier.

The helicopter landed on the summit and Mr Scott was stretchered onboard. He was flown to Stornoway airport and taken to the Stornoway hospital.
