Careless driving at beach party bash       3/8/11

A teenage car driver collide into a wall during a beach party  being held to celebrate the last day at the Nicolson for 6th year pupils.

Shaun Munro, 17, of 1B Swordale, Point, was with the large crowd of school leavers at the mass event at Coll beach on Lewis which went on into the early hours of 11 May.

He pleaded guilty by letter to careless driving when his case was called at Stornoway Sheriff Court today.

Procurator fiscal David Teale said he was “obviously showing off” by making the car slide and drift in the adjacent carpark at Coll Community Centre which is run by Back Recreation Club. He lost control and smashed into a wall, damaging the vehicle, he said.

Lawyer Kevin Macpherson said Munro, who is now an engineering student, was egged on by  friends.

He had repaired the damaged wall and made a £100 donation to the club.

Sheriff David Sutherland fined him £300 and imposed three penalty points on his licence.
