Concerns over timetable changes on remaining Barra flights  16/3/13

Fears of SNP MP Angus MacNeil is writing to Loganair and Transport Scotland asking for details of what the Glasgow to Barra schedule might look like now that Comhairle nan Eilean Siar have put a hole in the middle of the schedule by removing the Barra to Benbecula flights and leaving Barra with only half its flights.

Angus MacNeil said: “Given that the Comhairle have axed the flights between Barra and Benbecula by withholding the money they receive from the Scottish Government for these flights, we are now only left with the flights directly funded by the Scottish Government, namely the Glasgow to Barra route.

“Between Monday and Friday, before returning to Glasgow, the plane went to Benbecula, there is now a 1½ to 2 hour gap in the schedule which will probably mean timetable alterations.

“Since Comhairle nan Eilean Siar have axed the flights, I imagine the hole in the schedule will have a knock on effect on timetable implications and I would ask that no changes go ahead without consulting the community in Barra.

“Sadly Comhairle nan Eilean Siar decided to axe these flights with little notice and less respect.

“I would hope that Loganair and the Scottish Government do not follow the appalling example of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.

“I will be writing to both Loganair and Transport Scotland on this matter.”
