U-turn over holiday sailings           10/10/11

Cal Mac has executed an U-turn and agreed to provide sailings to and from Castlebay on the 26th December and 2nd January.

Fish processors slammed the ferry firm for withdrawing the service which would seriously disrupt the transporting of shellfish from Barra to European markets over the holiday period.

MP Angus MacNeil had asked Cal Mac to provide a sailing on both these dates, and Cal Mac have now come back to him saying that they will have a service on both these days.

Mr MacNeil commented:  “Once I was made aware of the fact that there were no scheduled sailings to and from Castlebay on the 26th December and 2nd January, I contacted Cal Mac to make them aware of the disruption this would cause the shellfish industry on the island, that they would not get their produce away to foreign markets on time.

“I am now delighted that Cal Mac will run a sailing to and from Castlebay on these dates.”
