Will Crichton keep his fuel promise ?            4/2/11

Sirs,

As a car owner living in Stornoway I have been feeling the pressure of
rising fuel prices along with everyone else, so I was very pleased to
see that Mr Crichton, the New Labour candidate for the Holyrood
election, is offering to pay each island motorist £400 per year.

This is a great improvement on his leader, Ian Gray, who doesn't seem to offer any policies at all, but just complains all the time that anything the
SNP government proposes is automatically wrong.

This year, I was considering giving up my car, on the grounds of cost,
and walking or using buses instead. However, I will now keep it going
until we see the details of the new scheme and I can work out how much
better off we will really be.

In fact, we might just buy a second car to get another bite at the cherry as it would have very low mileage and would be quite inexpensive to run.

A friend of mine suggested that, even if Mr Crichton were to win the
seat, there was absolutely no chance of his promise being kept.

He told me that this was just a cruel and dishonest way of trying to fool the
electorate as Mr Crichton is well aware that such a scheme could and
would never be implemented.

I dearly hope that he is wrong and that Mr Crichton turns out to be neither dishonest nor a naive fool, as we could certainly use the extra cash.

Susan Ghanimati,

Stornoway,
