The Castlebay ferry service has been cancelled due to a problem with the ship’s bow visor.

Until the fault is fixed the MV Isle of Lewis ferry will not operate sailings.

CalMac hopes repairs can be achieved by Monday afternoon though presently no assurances can be given of this timescale.

Due to the technical issue, vehicles on MV Isle of Lewis were stuck on board the vessel on arrival at Oban this (Sunday) morning.

The issue was rectified but only briefly. The ship stood off in Oban Bay to free the berth for another ferry, later returning to discharge loaded vehicles.

The vessel remains in Oban overnight resulting in the cancellation of sailings until the fault is repaired.
