MSP Alasdair Allan and local ‘Youth Champion’ Norrie ‘Tomsh’ MacDonald are holding a discussion event for young people in Point on Monday to discuss plans for Scotland’s Year of Young People.

As part of the Scottish Government's programme of themed years, 2018 will be the Year of Young People, celebrating the very best of Scotland and its young people.

One of the themes of this is participation – looking at how young people can influence public services and decisions which affect their lives.

The event is open to everyone in the Point area between the ages of 16 and 26 years, and will place take at 7.30pm at Ionad Stoodie.

Alasdair Allan said: “Scotland’s Year of the Young People will be a great opportunity to put the needs, views and interests of young people at the heart of public life and to focus on creating a better Scotland for our young people to grow up in.

“It is really important that young people are able to make their views known, and feel that they are able to influence and take part in the political process.

“Monday evening’s event gives young people an opportunity to do just that, while putting questions to their local representatives. I hope young people in Point will consider attending.”

Cllr Norrie ‘Tomsh’ MacDonald said: “It is vital that we don't exclude the people who will, in several years’ time, be most directly affected by the decisions we take today in the decision making process.”
