Talented young musicians are invited to apply for a grant to support them with their musical education and career development.

The Agar Trust gives grants of £100 to £1000 which helps them overcome the challenges they face living in rural areas, particularly travelling long distances to participate in tuition, courses, performances, rehearsals and auditions.

You must be aged between 8 and 21, show proven musical skills and potential, and live in rural Scotland.

Earlier this year, the trust made awards to 26 musicians including Donald Martin of Stornoway.

The 17-year-old double bass player received a travel bursary to attend courses in Perth and Edinburgh with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland.

His teacher said: “We don’t have an orchestra on the Isles, so the chance to play with the best of Scotland’s young musicians would have a lasting effect on his musical future.”

Details of how to apply are on www.agar-trust.org.uk. The current deadline is 30 September.
