Speeding driver avoids test resit 27/5/14
A young motorist has kept his licence with one point to spare.
As a new driver Matthew Campbell not only faced being banned but getting his licence
revoked and having to resit the test if he received six points for speeding.
The 17-year-old of 66 Garrabost, Point, Lewis, pleaded guilty to driving at 54mph
in a 30mph zone at Sandwick Road on 19 March.
At Stornoway Sheriff Court, his lawyer said the teenager was heading to the Stornoway
astro-turf with others for football match and allowed his speed to creep up.
He pointed out to the sheriff that Campbell’s licence was in jeopardy if he received
six points.
Sheriff David Sutherland imposed five points plus a £200 fine, discounted from £300
for his early plea, to be paid at £20 per week.
