Yes in the lead at Uist referendum debate               5/7/14

 

A poll conducted by Uist community newspaper, Am Paipear, which showed strong swing in favour of independence amongst a group who attended a recent public debate over the issue.

 

Alasdair Allan MSP spoke for Yes Scotland to outline the case for independence while Better Together was represented by Alasdair Morrison, chair of the campaign group for the union in the Western Isles.

 

Some 86 people who attended the debate voted in a secret ballot before and after the discussion.

 

The Am Paipear exit poll  showed 60% in favour of independence compared to 49% before.

 

There was also a rise  in the numbers who opted against - 24% said No at the end of the debate compared to 16% at the start.

 

After hearing the arguments during the meeting, only 16% were undecided which way they will vote compared to 35%beforehand.
