A motorist caused a head-on collision when she drove the wrong direction along an one-way street.

Norma Reid of Leurbost, Lewis, pleaded guilty by letter to careless driving when her case called at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

Procurator fiscal, Karen Smith, said the 65-year-old failed to notice the no entry sign when she turned into Main Street in Tarbert at 5.30pm on 21 September.

She continued to drive in the wrong direction and collided with a vehicle which entered the street, causing “significant damage” to the front end of both.

The other vehicle was undriveable and was later removed by a recovery truck.

Both drivers suffered a sore back, shoulders and ribs and attended hospital the court was told.

Honorary sheriff Iain Macleod deferred sentenced until next month.
