The names of eight famous bagpipers competing for a prestigious title have been announced
Only a select few are exclusively invited to participate in Pipe Major Donald Macleod Memorial Competition.
The event taking place in Stornoway is run annually by the Lewis and Harris Piping Society in memory of the the Hebridean pipe major who commanded an international reputation for his playing and teaching.
Invited pipers are Finlay Johnston, Ben Duncan, Niall Stewart, Roderick MacLeod, Craig Sutherland, Iain Speirs, Glenn Brown and Angus MacColl.
They have to play tunes mainly composed by P/M Macleod.
The competition is in its second year of sponsorship from wind farm charity Point and Sandwick Trust which allows the event to continue to be hosted on Lewis until 2021.
Increasing financial pressures risked moving the competition to the mainland to reduce costs.
This year’s event takes place this Friday in the Caladh Inn.
