The 10th anniversary Womens Cancer Challenge takes place on Saturday, starting at 12pm at Lews Castle College.

Participants have raised over £88,000 over the years for the award winning Lewis branch of Cancer Research UK by walking and running round the Castle Grounds to the mouth of the Creed and back to Castle Green.

Event organisers Kirsty and Tony Wade have been trying to encourage everyone who has ever taken part to enter this year to celebrate the anniversary.

Kirsty said: "We would love to one day have 1,000 participants and if everyone who took part last year persuaded one other person to get involved then it might be possible."

It is still possible to enter by filling in an entry form at the Sports Centre where you can also pick up a commemorative t-shirt.

"'We will accept entries on the day on Saturday but we do encourage everyone to try and enter beforehand if possible," said Kirsty.

The Women's Cancer Challenge is the largest sporting event in the Outer Hebrides and was the first of the now many 5k events that have encouraged people to become more active.

Tony said: "Our aim was to try and make going out walking and running the norm; in this way in the long term it will help reduce the risk of a whole range of significant health issues including cancers.

"We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday to celebrate the first decade of the Women's Cancer Challenge."
