One person taken to hospital following a road traffic collision in Stornoway town centre yesterday evening.

The incident occurred at the junction of Bank Street and North Beach Street in the late afternoon.

Paramedics transferred the casualty to hospital.

Diversions between Bayhead Street and South Beach were put in place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were called to a report of a crash involving a van and a pedestrian on North Beach in Stornoway at around 3.50pm on Tuesday, 19 July.

“Emergency services attended and one 53-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to Western Isles Hospital for treatment.

"The road was re-opened around 7.30pm."
