Woman stole hair straighteners          12/10/14

 

A woman stole hair straighteners and money in a cash box during an appointment to get her hair done at a Stornoway salon has appeared in court.

 

Marie Roy, 26, whose address was given as 6 Druim nan Currag, Callanish, Lewis, pleaded guilty to the thefts at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

 

Procurator fiscal David Teale said she was in the salon in North Beach Street for an appointment and was moving around the premises when she took the opportunity to grab the items on 7 June.

 

The cash box was never recovered, he said.

 

Roy also admitted shoplifting aftershave, cosmetic items and hair dye from Superdrug in Stornoway some three days later. She was stopped when she go outside the store, the court heard.

 

Sheriff David Sutherland sentenced her to 60 hours of unpaid community service work.
