Woman killed by car on Skye

A 21-year-old woman pedestrian has been killed following a road collision on Skye.

Police said she sustained fatal injuries after being knocked down on the main A87 road through the island near the Sligachan Hotel at about 1.15am this morning.

The male driver of the Vauxhall car was uninjured.

The A87 was closed in both directions earlier for an investigation by specialist road traffic officers.

No diversion was possible, affecting ferry traffic travelling on the North Uist and Harris sea routes

The roadway was fully opened later.
