An archaeology walk around Howmore is scheduled for Friday lunchtime, weather permitting. A music session is on between 5pm to 7pm in the Dark Island Hotel. Later, Trail West are playing in Iochdar Hall.

 

A Hogmanay celebration on Saturday sees a piping night in Grogarry Lodge, starting at 8pm. Meet at Bornish church by 1.30pm for a walk around the area. At 5pm there is a music session in the Borrodale.

 

On New Year’s Day, a forest walk by the shores of Loch Eynort starts at lunchtime while a fireside ceilidh in Grogarry Lodge, kicks off at 8pm.

The events are organised by Ceòlas as part of its winter festival programme.
 

 

Winter festival events in Uist

A series of New Year events is running in South Uist this week.

 

As part of Fèis Chullaig, classes in Gaelic, fiddle, pipes and singing are taking place in Grogarry Lodge from 10am onwards and anyone can take part.

 

Walks are arranged in the afternoons as are pub sessions with music and food in the early evening.

 

On Thursday there are activities for all the family in St Peters Hall from noon to 2pm. In the evening a ceilidh takes place in Stoneybridge. Lochboisdale Hotel is hosting a music session 5-7pm.
