Winds rip off garage roof

Michael and Floretta Butterworth of Swordale, Lewis, were powerless to act when they saw winds ripping off the entire roof clean off their garage during the storm in the early hours of today.

Michael Butterworth (pictured above), 72, said: “There was nothing I could do. I had to lookout the window and just watch it go.

“It was dark but I was shining the torch to see, first of all the door going. A bit later on there was no roof.

The wind broke “bits off the lawnmover” and flung them around the village, he added.
