Winds of 96 mph blasted the Scalpay bridge this evening. The top wind speed hit just before 6.30pm at the peak of Storm Barbara.

In the afternoon, a gust of  91.5 mph was recorded at the same spot by the comhairle’s weather monitoring station.

At 1pm gusts of 82.3 mph were measured half way across the Barvas Moor road.

79 mph winds were experienced in Stornoway harbour today.

The official weather station in South Uist had reading of 75mph winds at lunchtime.
