Point and Sandwick windfarm generated £900,000 profit last year.

The money is being ploughed into community projects such as energy efficiency schemes and tree planting.

In addition, £300,000 was donated to a variety of local groups, the organisation’s annual meeting heard.

The profit from three turbines at Beinn Ghrideag on the Pentland Road in Lewis equals the pledged community payments from the proposed 36-turbines being progressed by privately owned Lewis Wind Power,

Electricity output was 29 million KW hours - enough to power every house in Lewis.
