One building was destroyed in a moorland fire in Lewis overnight.

Two other building were nearly burnt as the dry easterly winds pushed the flames ahead.

Three fire crews were called out to the incident in Gravir, South Lochs.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said the fire may have reignited from muirburn left unattended earlier.

The fire brigade advised against burning heather and grassland during the present dry weather.

A spokesperson said: “The current wind conditions in the islands are not suitable for muirburn.”
