Wife left unconscious after assault         14/3/13

A man who left his wife unconscious after assaulting her was ordered to be of good behaviour until her is sentenced at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

Archibald Macfarlane of 10 Carnan Park, Shawbost, Lewis, previously admitted attacking the woman on the evening of 9 February and was due to be sentenced yesterday.

Procurator fiscal David Teale said the pair were drinking and started arguing.

Macfarlane grabbed his wife by both hands and pushed her backwards, causing her to fall over a rucksack and hit the floor.

The fiscal said she was unconscious. Macfarlane checked her pulse and put water on her face and then left.

Mr Teale said his wife wrote to the court saying she had not “wanted the matter taken any further” and indicated she sought a reconciliation.

Solicitor Kevin Macpherson said his client was “deeply ashamed“ of his actions.

Sheriff David Sutherland deferred sentence for a further six weeks.

Bail was revoked meaning Macfarlane is no longer obliged to reside on the mainland.
