The Skye and Wester Ross BDMLR team which carries out whale and dolphin rescue on north west Higlands mainland has launched a new whale rescue pontoon following a successful online appeal to locate rescue equipment on the west coast.
The need to base a rescue pontoon in the area became apparent after a recent mass stranding of 21 pilot whales in Skye.
An online appeal soon exceeded its £4,000 target.
The new whale rescue pontoon has an extra local importance having been dedicated to James Stewart, a local man that trained to become a Marine Mammal Medic with BDMLR but sadly succumbed to motor neurone disease earlier this year
