Fears a humpback whale was entangled in fishing gear prompted a rescue team being despatched to a Lewis sealoch.

The mammal was spotted circling in the water between Callanish and Bernera in East Loch Roag.

With its tail not showing, observers though it was caught in ropes.

A team of volunteers from the north of Scotland were not required when the whale was seen freely swimming soon after their arrival.
