Hebrides News

The Outer Hebrides has been named as one of the world's top spots to visit by travel guide publisher, Rough Guides.

The Western Isles is the only UK destination on the list of ten - others include Tōhoku, in Japan, Gujarat in India and the Northern Cape region of South Africa.

If travellers need inspiration then they should consider the myth and natural majesty of the islands which are just a quick flight away from the mainland, highlights the guide.

"During the long summer days, the isles’ turquoise waters and white sandy beaches appear Caribbean-like, with top-notch waves for surfers and kiteboarders.

"Inland, castles, archeological sites, museums and quaint cottages make for perfect stops along the dramatic walking trails and cycle routes.

"While each island possesses a unique character, all are spectacular and overlooked."
