Two Western Isles teams will represent Scotland in the national finals of the British Team Quest dressage championships.

Team Quest is a fast growing, popular new equestrian competition for riders of all ages and abilities.

Sometimes referred to as "horse ballet," dressage tests the skills of the rider with the horse smoothly carrying out a series of manoeuvres.

Normally there would be only one Scottish finals but the sport has grown so popular in the Western Isles so organisers have split the championship competition into two events. One was staged in Lewis and the other was held for mainland competitors in Lanarkshire.

The Neigh Chance team are the Scottish open event champions, sharing the title with a mainland squad. The team is made up of Emma Sinlair, Kayleigh Kennedy, Diane Morrison and Abby Jo Morrison.

The Stornoway Legends team - compromising of Amy Fraser, Chanelle Divers, Abby Jo Morrison and Kayleigh Kennedy -  are Scottish youth winners and will compete in the national finals.

Western Isles horse riders to represent Scotland

3 October 2015

Eight Western Isles teams took part in earlier qualifying rounds with seven reaching the regional event at the Lochside Arena on the Lochs Road, outside Stornoway. Teams of four riders rode as individuals across the three test levels with the best three scores counting towards an overall team total.

The judge, Lady Hope, said she was impressed with the Stornoway event.

She said: "I think the standard was brilliant. They worked really hard with beautifully turned-out horses and ponies - some never really competed before and they did extremely well. I was really impressed."

She also praised the volunteers behind the Lochside Arena for their dedication and in establishing the facility.
