Schools from the Western Isles had a hugely successful evening at the 2024 FilmG awards.
The awards ceremony took place in Glasgow and the Nicolson Institute, Sgoil Lionacleit and Sgoil a’ Bhac were amongst those who secured the top awards.
Sgoil Lionacleit emerged triumphantly in the FilmG Choice (Youth) category. The powerful film, “Aillse, Sealladh Marsailli” follows the personal story of Marsailli MacAulay, a current pupil at Sgoil Lionacleit.
Sgoil a’ Bhac were deemed the best in the category for the ‘Best Youth Group’ with their film, “Fuirich air Falbh. Eight pupils travelled to Glasgow to be part of the awards ceremony.
The Nicolson Institute’s CnaG (Comunn na Gàidhlig) Boys walked home with the top prize in the Best Documentary category. Their film “BaidhsaGaels’ was greatly enjoyed by the adjudicators.
Donald Macsween, chair of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Gaelic committee said: “I would like to congratulate all the schools and community groups who were shortlisted and especially to those who won prizes.
“FilmG gives excellent opportunities for participants to develop their media skills and it was good to see the islands so well represented.
“I am sure all those in attendance at the awards ceremony thoroughly enjoyed the experience and they are all excellent Gaelic ambassadors their schools and in the wider community.”
