Western Isles Labour eventually identify themselves 18/2/12
Sirs,
I wish to offer my congratulations to Matt Bruce, chairman of the Western Isles Labour Party. His letter on the 16 February was the first time I have seen anyone from the Western Isles Labour Party actually name themselves. Up until now the electorate of the Western Isles have been treated to a series of press releases from Western Isles Labour with no indication of who has written them.
It is my hope this heralds a new age for the Western Isles Labour Party. Councillors and prospective councillors will stand under the Labour banner, and have the courage of their convictions to tell the electorate exactly what party they support. Their members when writing letters to Hebrides News and other media outlets shall outline exactly why they think Labour is better, unlike Mr Bruce’s effort which simply attacks the SNP with no indication of what the Labour Party would do. Iain Grey and his Labour cohorts suffered a very heavy defeat last May after their negative campaigning, Mr Bruce should take note.
Sadly, I feel that most Labour party members in the Western Isles are too ashamed of their party’s recent track record to admit where their allegiances lies. When this track record includes bitter opposition to RET, illegal Wars and the abandonment of their founding principles it is little wonder they keep quiet.
It is far easier to stand as an independent councillor and then when the time comes
to select the next Labour candidate for an election suddenly reveal all. The letters
will continue to come in, anti-
Thankfully I have no problem saying what party I support. I support the SNP. The party that has ensured free Higher Education in Scotland, the Party that has introduced RET, the Party that has Scotland’s, not London’s, interests at heart.
