The Western Isles have won 19 medals at the international Island Games in Jersey.

The haul is the islands best result ever in the international event.

Seven gold medals were gained by Hebridean competitors during the week long event.

Some six silver medals and the same number of bronze make up the final tally.

Kathryn Offer broke the Island Games record coming in first for the women's 50 metre backstroke with a time of 28:79.

Swimmer Kara Hanlon squeezed ahead of Laura Kingley from the Isle of Man in the 200 metre breaststroke final.

In soaring temperatures, Donnie Macleod beat all rivals in the men's 800 metre final in a time of 1:53.89.

The Macphee sisters from Kilpheder, South Uist gained six medals between them four gold and two silver - in the cross country mountain bike event and the mountain bike criterion.

Kerry and Kirsty's double sister act across the tow competitions means South Uist won more medals than Greenland or Orkney.

In the final race in the athletics competitions, the Hebridean team was third across the finish line in the men's long relay event.

Earlier, Connor Maclean of Stornoway was awarded bronze in the 1,500 metres race.
