Western Isles ferry sailings cancelled due to northerly gale

CalMac ferry sailings face upheaval as a spell of wild weather moves in overnight particularly affecting the Outer Hebrides.

Tonight’s (Tuesday) Stornoway freight sailing from Stornoway is liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice. No livestock will be carried and the sailing will operate on a load and go basis.

MV Loch Seaforth plans to remain in Ullapool until the weather improves.

Northerly winds up to 55mph are expected early on Wednesday morning, whipping up seas and creating high waves.

Stornoway - Ullapool sailings are cancelled up to the afternoon. The 5.30pm departure from Ullapool remains liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice. Livestock will be assessed for shipment on a case-by case basis. The Wednesday night freight service from Stornoway also faces disruption.

Many other Western Isles ferry services also face hold-ups over Wednesday including the first timetabled return sailings on the Sound of Barra are cancelled. A review will be carried out for the 9.25am run. The service is on yellow alert over the day.  

The Barra sailing via Coll and Tiree operated by MV Clansman may be called off at short notice.

MV Hebrides crossings on the Skye triangle are on yellow alert.  

The Lochboisdale sailing is cancelled due to weather. No ferry is available to carry out a service on Thursday or possibly any other day until further notice.
