Western Isles Bible Conference       5/6/14

The annual Western Isles Bible Conference is due to take place this weekend, running from Friday to Sunday at Stornoway Free Church (Continuing).

This year’s speaker is Rev. Malcolm Watts. Originally from Barnstaple, Devon, Mr Watts came to faith in Christ as a teenager. After training at London Bible College, he was called in 1971 to be Minister of Emmanuel Church, Salisbury where he has remained ever since.

A conference spokesman said: “Rejecting many of the trends which have weakened contemporary evangelicalism, Mr Watts has resolutely espoused an emphasis on doctrinal and experimental preaching together with reverence in worship.

“In following these principles, including the adoption of unaccompanied Psalm singing, the Congregation in Salisbury has flourished.

“As well as being chairman of the Trinitarian Bible Society and the Bible League Trust, he is also a visiting lecturer at the Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids.”

In all Mr Watts will give five addresses, based on the theme The Riches of Christ. Friday evening (7.30pm) is given over to Our Poverty. Saturday (2pm & 6.30pm) will be on themes His Riches and then Good News For Poor Sinners. Finally on the Sabbath (11am & 6.30pm) the themes are Present Possession and Future Enjoyment.
