Bad weather lashes islands 28/12/11
All ferries to the Western Isles are cancelled as a storm hits the islands.
The worst of the severe weather is affecting Uist and Barra though all parts of the islands will experience gale force winds.
Gusts up to 90mph are expected in exposed places. The storm will pass over the islands between 1pm and 6pm with winds shifting westerly and then north westerly. Later, it will remain breezy into tomorrow.
There will be no 5.30pm bus from Stornoway to Harris with the 4pm departure being the last run for today.
Barra flights have been cancelled and the Aberdeen to Stornoway plane has been delayed.
The Braighe causeway at Point, Lewis, was shut earlier as strong south westerly winds threw waves and spray across the roadway. It is unlikely to be closed at high tide tonight.
The Met Office has issued an amber alert of severe weather for the Western Isles.
