The Harris Tweed Authority Educational Trust is shortly opening a permanent exhibition and brand information room within Stornoway Town Hall. The room will be open to the public during the summer season and thereafter by appointment or prior arrangement. It is our hope that this professionally designed and curated exhibition will help us to tell the Harris Tweed story to locals and guests visiting the island.

Central to the exhibition is a Hattersley single width loom and a Griffiths Double Width Loom. It is our hope to offer short weaving demonstrations to visitors during the peak tourism season.

The Harris Tweed Authority wishes to hire the services of a weaver or group of weavers who could work together on a rota to provide weaving demonstrations at pre-agreed times of the week.

It is vital that the weaver or weavers are fully competent in the operation of both the single and double width loom and are able to confidently narrate the weaving process.

A friendly and outgoing personality is essential and fluency in Gaelic would be a significant advantage.

A rate of £15 per hour is payable and a commitment of 5-10 hours per week is required during June and July, with a possible extension through August depending on demand and footfall. This opportunity may well suit a retired Harris Tweed weaver.

Interested individuals or groups of weavers should contact Jane H Macmillan on 01851 702269 for more information.

Closing date - Thursday 3rd May at 5pm.
