Hebrides News

A weather warning has been issued for South Uist and Barra as a band of bad weather sweeps across the country.

Blustery winds are set to affect other parts of the Western Isles as an Atlantic depression drives an “unseasonably windy spell.”

An initial swathe of southerly gales accompanied by heavy rain will move east across many parts later on Monday, giving gusts of 40-50 mph widely, including the Hebrides.

Winds will become west or southwesterly on Tuesday though - at present - are forecast to decrease in strength in the islands.

Large waves will affect some coasts at times.

Given the disturbed pattern of the low pressure front, the track of the bad weather may change. Already it has moved further north than expected and further uncertainty surrounds its intensity and direction for Tuesday.
