Weather delays to Monday’s ferry services      5/10/14

Strong winds predicted for Monday morning resulted the Stornoway ferry, MV Isle of Lewis, returning empty to the mainland tonight (Sun).

She plans to pick up her timetable from Ullapool when the bad weather eases later on Monday.

She would not have attempted her scheduled 7am run out of Stornoway in the predicted 55 mph gusts.

The repositioning voyage allows the ship to be ready to resume sailings at 10.45am after the storm weakens.

The first ferry sailings between Harris, Skye and North Uist are cancelled on Monday morning.

MV Hebrides will stay in Tarbert until the weather improves. Her skipper will make a decision at 8.30am.

Cal Mac said the services could be cancelled at short notice.

Monday’s sailings out of Lochboisdale and Castlebay are cancelled. The ferry is due to make an outbound run from Oban to Barra at the usual time in the afternoon. The next sailing from to Lochboisdale will not be until Tuesday.

The first sailings of the MV Loch Portain across the Sound of Harris risk being cancelled or delayed at short notice.

The Eriskay to Barra ferry is expected to operate as normal.
