Jobs in the new government body, Wave Energy Scotland, should be located on Galson Estate on Lewis, according to Labour candidate Alasdair Morrison.
The political hopeful urged his election rivals to support his call for the renewable agency to be based in the islands.
Lewis is ideally suited as it offers the “best potential for taking wave technology forward,” while Galson Estate exemplifies the “spirit of renewal community ownership of land and resources can unleash,” he believes.
Mr Morrison said: “This would also offer a major economic boost to Lewis and compensate for the Scottish Government's past failure to deliver on promises relating to wave energy."
He added: “I know Comhairle nan Eilean Siar will support this call to have these jobs located in the islands. I hope we can all work together and turn the tide of centralisation that has been so damaging to our islands."
