Around 230 properties in the Callanish area are urged to boil their tap water.

Scottish Water has issued a boil water notice on the advice of the consultant in Public Health Medicine at NHS Western Isles.

Water samples shows a small deterioration in the normal quality of the supply.

Villagers in Linshader, Garynahine, Breasclete, Callanish and Tolsta Chaolais are urged to boil their water before cooling for drinking, preparing food, including ice cubes and salads babies’ feeds and disinfecting feeding equipment and cleaning teeth.

The water can still be used for bathing and washing, laundry and flushing the toilet.
