Islanders are being warned that plunging temperatures will lead to icy roads and footpaths in places this weekend.

The wintry weather and cold air will lead to some hazardous driving conditions across the region, particularly where roads have not been gritted.

Affected pavements and paths will be slippery.

The Met Office has issued a yellow be aware warning of ice across all of Scotland.

Widespread icy patches are expected to readily form on untreated surfaces this evening and during Saturday night, especially where snow cover exists or where wintry showers occur.

People are urged should take extra care and be aware of the possibility of some disruption to travel.
