People have until 22 October to have their say on proposed changes to council ward boundaries.
The Local Government Boundary Commission began a public consultation on its proposals for ward boundaries in Scotland’s 32 council areas in July.
The reviews will result in recommendations to Scottish Ministers for the number of councillors on each council, the number and boundaries of wards, and the number
of councillors in each ward.
The commission expects to make its recommendations to Scottish Ministers in 2016, and that the resulting wards will be available for the local government elections in May 2017.
Western Isles proposals:
Barra, Vatersay, Eriskay & South Uist No change to current boundaries but reduction in number of councillors from 4 to 3
Benbecula & North Uist No change to current boundaries. Number of councillors to remain at three.
Harris, Lochs, Uig and Bernera Four councillors in a new single superward, reflecting the wish that the entire Lochs community be in one electoral ward, linked with Harris, and including Uig and Bernera. This effectively combines two current wards into one.
Point Extension of current boundaries to include Sandwick and Plasterfield
Stornoway South Changes to current boundaries and a reduction from four councillors to three.
Stornoway North Changes to current boundaries and a reduction from four councillors to three.
Broadbay Little change to current boundaries
Ness & Westside Remain a four councillor ward, but extended the area to include Carloway, Breasclete, Callanish and Garynahine. Possible name change to reflect the addition of the Carloway district.
